Students have to form a team of 3 students and contact faculty members during the registration period to discuss a potential senior project.
After the registration period, groups without a supervisor will be assigned to a supervisor in collaboration with the department based on each faculty load.
You will receive an email about the start of registration for senior projects where you will be already added to the Blackboard Senior Projects Community. Then, you have to select a group and ask your team and supervisor to join that group on Blackboard.
See the video on How a student can register/join a group in Blackboard.
See the video on How a supervisor can join a senior group on the Blackboard.
To register for the Senior Project course (CMPE 498), the following requirements should be met:
A student must complete 83 CH (for CE) by the end of the summer semester.
For CE it is required to complete CMPE 370 – Computer Engineering Practicum before/during the Senior Project.
CE students must have a CE supervisor.
Must have a hardware design. The solution must involve the design and implementation of some products containing hardware components.
Yes, however, you have to keep in mind that the demand is higher and need to have proper supervision on both CS and CE:
If you are an individual and you could not join a group, you can still register in the Blackboard senior project community as an individual and will be assigned later to a group.
Yes, The registration on Blackboard is not official and the student must register in the Banner at the beginning of the semester. The Banner will check if the student fulfills the above requirement and if not, he/she will not be able to register for the senior. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to make sure he fulfills the eligibility requirement as we had many cases where they failed to register based on their official academic record.
You might be able to register in the Blackboard community but you will FAIL to register in the official Banner later and this will cause trouble for your team and senior projects committee.
NO. Initially, each supervisor is allowed to supervise one group and he/she can not select two groups. The second group assignment will be decided by the department ONLY based on a load of each faculty.
No, each senior group has to have 3 members and there are no exceptions!
The only exception is if we have one student remained at the end of registration and all groups are full, then the only option is to give an exception ONLY in this case. So, it is not a matter of choice for the students.
